Short excerpts of life... (10)

Excerpt 28

One day, my colleagues and myself were at the pantry eating lunch. We started to share travelling experiences.

Auntie A: You know right, we have to go nude in the hot springs at Taiwan.
Auntie B: Yes yes, Japan also. However, the hot springs at Japan hand out small pieces of towel (size of a face towel) to customers.
Auntie A: Hmm... the towel so small. I can imagine where the men can cover. But where can the women cover using that size of a towel.
Auntie C: The face, of course.

All of us burst out laughing.

Excerpt 29

My Company has offices at 2 locations: Changi and Suntec.

One day, the Financial Controller (previously is the Senior Finance Manager) came out of his office and asked me if I wanted to go Suntec office with him.

I don't like to go to the Suntec office because of the hassle it entails.

Me: Go Suntec? To do what? Don't want lar.
FC: Of course go there do work lar.

Then the aunties started laughing.

Excerpt 30

Work has ended and I jumped up from my seat.

Me: I'm going to the Borders Fair.

During lunchtime, nearly the entire Finance team went to Expo but there was a loooooooong queue at the Borders Fair.

Auntie A: Wei! You haven't finished this allocation thing that we are working on!
Me: I was very emo we didn't get the chance to buy books!
Auntie B: You must be kidding!
Me: No, I'm being serious.
Auntie A: Wah... what a bookworm.

And so off I went and spent the rest of the night browsing and queuing for books.

Mood of the day (2)

While walking to the MRT today, I thought of something that I would like to share here.

From Monday to Thursday, I wish that Friday would come. From Friday night up to Sunday, I would be wishing that time would stop.

I suddenly thought that I am spending 65% of the week wishing for time to pass fast. How ironic but do we really want our youth to pass us by?

How many years of 20+ years old do I have left before I turn 30?

Imagine yourself buried in work for 8 hours everyday (even worse if you work more than 8 hours a day). After work, you go immediately to bed and wake up to the next day for work again.

Doing some computations, here's a breakdown of my life so far:

1) 22 years of studying
2) 3.5 years of working
3) 1.5 years of living life (ie weekends)

I suddenly feel envious for people who have found the eventual goal of their life. (Eg music, volunteer work, religious teacher)

Busy dreaming nowadays...

Well, don't be alarmed. I haven't been dreaming during office hours. Instead, I've been having dreams repeatedly these 2 weeks. Actually, it's not a good thing to dream at night. A person ends up feeling tired the next day.

Let me share with you the dreams I had.

The first dream (Last Friday)
I went backpacking with my lao gong at a foreign country. We were lost and couldn't find our hostel. I remembered this feeling of despair during the dream while we searched all over the country for the hostel. I even called home to my mom to ask for directions (obviously, not logical since she has a worse direction sense than me). She wasn't helpful at all and told me to mind my own business (and not keep asking stupid questions).

So... we searched and searched and searched and FINALLY, we found the hostel.

We saw this lady sitting beside a cashier and approached her to check if its the right place. I remembered that I liked the hostel on first sight. Why? There were rows and rows of snacks at the front. The lady pointed to some houses behind the rows and rows of snacks. Those houses were supposed to be the hostel that we were looking for.

The second dream (Yesterday)
I was in my room with my lao gong, studying. I usually put the temperature of the air-con at 22 degrees celcius. So that day, I also put it at 22 degrees celcius.

After some time, we felt really hot! I went to check the temperature (using the aircon control not a thermometer) and it showed 1,000 degrees celcius. No wonder it was so hot. (Btw, its not logical to only detect heat at 1,000 degrees celcius)

I lowered the temperature back to 22 degrees celcius. We tried experimenting by waiting for a few minutes. Lo and behold, the temperature went up to 100 degrees celcius!

I then quickly ran to tell my dad that the aircon is spoilt and to get a repairman.

The third dream (Yesterday)
Well, the third dream drifted in right after the second dream.

I remembered my dad was holding a letter, shivering. I was wondering what was the matter and saw him pointing to a word on the letter: 鬼(Chinese word for ghost).

He then quickly ran to my neighbour's house (a Malay priest) (Not logical since my neighbour is an Indian) and begged him to get rid of the word.

So me and my dad sat in front of the neighbour and he chanted for a long long time.

I was still wondering what happened?!

Then after a long period of chanting, the word disappeared from the letter and my dad was happy again.

I'm hoping to have a good night's sleep tonight.

Happy Rabbit Year!!!

Hope my readers enjoyed the 4 days as much as I did. This year was a different Chinese New Year experience for myself. Even though it seemed to be busier, but it's definitely more fulfilling than the past experiences.

1. I highlighted my hair red for the occasion. One thing about the hair dye job that I disliked was that the colour ran for 1 week plus. It really sucks wrapping my shoulders with a towel in order to prevent my clothes from becoming pink.

2. I've long envied people with big families that maintain close relationships. The time I spent during Chinese New Year visiting the extended family on my lao gong's side, was a fulfilling one. Sometimes, people always think that the grass on the other side is always green. From the perspective of someone with a small family background, big extended families exude warmth and vibrance. On the flip side of the coin, some others may think that so much visiting is a hassle.

3. This must be the only year I managed to keep awake until 12am on "chu xi". I think it must be because I am out of audit!!!! Or was it because of the excitement of the Chinese New Year that lies ahead of me?

4. I managed to catch a movie "Homecoming" over the weekend as well. My mom is a big fan of Jack Neo. (It's not affected by his scandal at all). It's just an average movie. Nothing spectacular. It's just a local production with jokes tailored for the everyday uncle and auntie in Singapore.

5. I'm glad my maternal grandma recognised me this year. At first, she didn't recognise me and reacted badly to me. But later, she managed to realise it's the child she once raised. And when I left, she was smiling happily.

Isn't it sad that everyone has to go through the life process of aging, sickness other than happiness and birth of new life?

Having said the above, I wish all my readers a Happy Chinese New Year...

And please enjoy the remaining 2 hours of Sunday~
