Happy 2011 - Topic to start off the new year

If I were to ask you for 10 words to describe what new year brings to your mind, what are they?

Party? Romance? Booze?

To start off the new year, I shall blog on an interesting topic that came across my mind on 1st Jan (but didn't have the motivation to blog until now).

Should you have a first date on a New Year's Eve?

Unlike a first date on any other day, a first date on a New Year's Eve is different due to the significance of the day. The beginning to a new year.

The advantages of having a first date on a New Year's Eve are:
1. Built in excitement
The atmosphere everywhere on New Year's Eve and the anticipation of the countdown at midnight is contagious. This helps to give a good start on the first date.

2. Built in conversation starters
Do you have any New Year's resolutions? What was last year like for you? What, if anything, would you do differently?

These are the topics that can be used to start a conversation on a New Year's Eve, breaking the awkwardness of a first date.

3. Everyone is a social butterfly
A few drops of booze is enough to get a person to loosen up and become a social butterfly. People you interact with will most likely be in an upbeat and friendly mood as they look to the future with hope and promise (or possibly the end of the holiday season!)

So... what are the disadvantages?

1. The chance for disaster to occur
On such a special day, the expectations of the date would be pretty high. Its not uncommon to see everyone jumping for joy and hugging their friends when the clock strikes 12. Imagine yourself in a scenario whereby you are standing rigidly beside your date while the rest of the crowd are partying around you. I definitely don't want to be in this situation.

2. Interacting with drunk people/other people you don't usually interact with
There are many cases of unreported molest cases during countdown parties, an example is at this link. Well, this girl might be asking for it considering her attire. However, haven't we heard of people spraying form on Orchard Roads and taking the chance to conduct such molests?

The worst case scenario is your date getting molested and thinks that you were the pervert!

3. The date has to last until at least midnight
On any other night, if things aren't going well, you can cut your losses and call it a day, but on New Year's Eve, the expectation is that you will still be together after the bewitching hour!

To conclude the post, I found a poll done by online at link:

Apparently, a first date on a New Year's Eve is not a good idea afterall.
