HDB prices and the availability of HDB have been the hot topics debated during the General Elections 2011. Unhappiness with the $8K ceiling, low supply of flats, ever increasing prices of flats, the list of topics just doesn't end.
Let me share with you my 1 year experience before successfully getting a good flat. Perhaps my friends who are reading this could take this into consideration when planning for a flat.
1) The $8k Ceiling
Many couples actually do earn more than that ceiling. Even if the couple is earning more than the EC cap of $12k, a private condominium located in Seng Kang now costs at least $1million. Exception is if you don't mind a second floor unit. Omg... I wonder if I could reach that worth after a whole life's of slogging away.
I must say that I have been bogged down by this ceiling for quite a while. I stopped applying for flats for 4 months earlier this year. I was waiting for my Company to effect a change in my pay structure. During this agonising process, I must say I felt really frustrated. The administrative function in my Company was a failure! They were a mess. Firstly, they effected the change in pay structure without the increment. Secondly, after an adjustment, they still got it wrong! They paid me using the old structure. With all these in and out printed on my payslips, I wasn't surprised when HDB asked me about these adjustments.
2) Ever increasing prices
A year ago when we were already looking for BTO projects, the prices of the flats ranged about $300k. The flat that we have chosen now costs over $400k. (My guess is that wait somemore and the flat prices will hit half a million) Projects launched 2 months after mine now costs the same price as mine but the difference is that mine is a premium project (with flooring and walls done up for you) whilst the latest ones are only standard (ie flooring and walls not done up for you) HDB flats.
The launch of the Tampines DBSS caused a big hoo-haa just a few weeks ago. Ridiculously priced at over $800k, I wonder what the Singaporeans who bought in this project were thinking. You could get an EC or a low floor private condo with that money.
3) It's all about luck
After 1 year of balloting, we came to a conclusion that the ballot number really depends on your luck. We had many chances when applying for the Bukit Panjang project but it still didn't work out well.
:D I'm happy to say that I have been lucky this time round. I managed to get a good number for this premium project. Even luckier is that I was given the opportunity to get a unit with balcony out of the mere 85 units available. :D
The main challenge is to wait out the 3 years for the HDB to be built.
4) The changing regime
HDB has just launched a preview of the upcoming projects for the year. I believe young couples probably welcome this change.
From the BTO perspective, those who chose a project would be concerned whether the 70% demand mark would be reached for the project to build. As more and more couples realise that the ballot number comes from luck and accumulated chances play minimal part in it, they would rather wait out for a good number. With an increase in supply, they most probably keep balloting until they get their best number. And the vicious cycle begins...
Conclusion
Much as I feel lucky I got a flat now, I am still apprehensive of the fact that I need to pay half a million for a roof over my head.

Before I end, I must thank Christie for inspiring me to blog again. I thought all my readers gave up on me... :D after neglecting this space for so long.

SHINE Youth Festival is here!
Sponsored Advertorial
Yay! SHINE Youth Festival is here again in July!
And for those who didn't know what SHINE Youth Festival is about, it's actually a platform for youths between the age of 15 and 35 to indulge in their passion, where it celebrates and showcases youth talent. Thus it acts as the stage to demonstrate their energy and grow their skills and talents.
♥
Well, just some thoughts I would like to share...
To me, I think it's quite a meaningful event, but some of you might not be able to see it on the surface but to think about it, it actually is! Cause we are all now busy with school, or some of us already working and the many needs in life that we need to attend to and we all forgotten about what we love doing, our hobbies, passion and interest!
This is why I say SHINE Youth Festival is meaningful because it creates this time, which allows us to stop for awhile to think and to do what we like doing (be it your favourite sports or whatever) and what we want apart from our busy schedule which we normally don't have time for!
For me, what I really like doing is to play the Saxophone and I used to play it (quite well okay) in band when I was in Secondary school! And I really miss those days!
The Saxophone section back then!
And due to all the busy schedule, I've no time anymore for what I love doing (which is playing the Saxophone), and have passion for! And I know that many of you guys are like me too!
You love to sing, dance, cosplay, care for the environment, and all sorts of things! And this is the chance, where everyone, including your friends gather and have fun!
So for this year SHINE Youth Festival is opening on 2 July.....
Challenge us to take action, with its shout-out; Enough Talk, Just Do!
Apart from the pillow fight competition, eating competition, photography, DJ Turntablism, flea market, percussion and beatboxing workshops which will be there at the opening itself, it will also kick off at *SCAPE with a SHINE Youth Festival concert showcasing various artistes!
Tay Kewei
Derrick Hoh
Play Music/Warner Music Singapore Artiste
And also, JuzB!
Along with others like DJ Koflow, Jack and Rai, Bloco Singapura and Erick Guansing and The Roses!
I'm sure that there will be something for everyone, like from street showcases and dance, to Cosplay and even community service! So you can do whatever is based on your interest as the festival features four main interests of Arts & Culture, Community, Environment and Sports!
Sounds fun isn't it? Don't forget to mark your date on the calendar!
It's 2nd July at *SCAPE (whole day)! For more details, you can check out:

Wait wait wait! And that's not all!
There's even a Facebook game created under SHINE which is call, Power 2 Shine!
Where we goes on a journey to pick up power eons and bring back to Home Base to light up the SHINE logo. All we have to do is to overcome obstacles and eliminate zombie-like characters.
And yes, obviously there are prizes! The top 2 gamers who can carry out the entire task in the fastest times will stand to win TWO iPad2, with many other prizes to be won as well!
So go to power2shine.sg to check it out!

But because of safety reasons, I still do put it on everytime! No choice huh!

Exploring the Olympic Gardens
Recently I was able to attend a crop night at a local scrapbook store. I was able to complete two layouts from idea to finish and I was pretty excited about that! The pictures in this layout were taken in Atlanta, Georgia, on a family vacation. We went to the big aquarium there and took time afterwards to walk across the street and explore the Olympic Gardens, where the ceremonies for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics were held.
(Remember you can click on any picture to see it larger.)
The large shapes in the background are from the latest Cricut Circle exclusive cartridge - Pop Up Neighborhood. They were cut to fit to a 12x12 page. I believe they cut out at 8". The printed papers are from the Stack 7 by DCWV. The picture of my husband and I has pink twine wrapped around it to bring out the pink of the cherry tree blossoms.
The title letters are totally escaping me what cart they came from right now! Ah!! I do remember that I welded the shadow letters to create the shadow for Olympic Gardens. I just love that picture of my youngest's feet sticking out of her stroller looking at the waterfall. She loves fountains and water falls.
In case you are interested in the journaling or a closer look at the shadow:
Thanks for stopping by to take a look! I hope you all are having a fabulous day!

Siao! I didn't know that leh! So kua zhang lor!
I thought of getting a tablet recently because I can then use it out when I'm waiting for appointment/people or whenever I need to pass some time! I was also considering Blackberry Playbook but because iPad really have better photography apps to play with so I ended up decided to get it but since there is isn't any stock then I might just give it a miss!
Since it's not really a need also! Yea, some pictures!
Met up with Esther and Isaac for the last time before Isaac enlist!
But no pictures of us cause I didn't take any! Just one random food pic! Haha!
Then after that, with Fingers just to chill!
